It’s time you had an equal seat at the special education table and a support system by your side
The world of special education and IEPs should come with a user manual!

It’s true…the process is not parent-friendly and leaves many stressed and learning through trial and error each year. School teams face challenges that strain time, talent, and resources (not always, but often enough!). The combination can create unnecessary friction in the IEP process.

Colleen founded Abilities Unlocked Advo-Consulting because she believes that, with support and coaching, parents can deepen their understanding and learn to collaborate effectively. Achieving a consistent home–school approach is one of the best indicators of student success. When everyone is on the same page, they steer towards the same goals, and progress is made.

Throughout her career, she has held many roles at the IEP table… special education teacher, behavior consultant, educational consultant, and friend. She deeply respects and understands all the different team members' perspectives and strengths. The key element to team collaboration is discussing areas of concern and solving problems together.

At the IEP table, she is laser-focused on listening, analyzing, and synthesizing all the essential information about the learner. Colleen is a natural problem solver and excels at taking all team members’ input and guiding discussion to create individualized plans for the student. Her expertise areas include: intervention design/implementation, modified curriculum, behavioral assessment & intervention, progress monitoring, best practices in ASD programming, social-emotional learning, inclusive practices, classroom management, social pragmatics & problem-solving, and evidence-based instruction.
